As we’ve touched on in our previous blog posts, aluminium doors and windows are so easy to care for. No windows or doors are ever truly maintenance-free but aluminium doors and windows come very close! In fact, we’d give them the classification of “extremely low maintenance”. But what does this mean and how can you keep your aluminium doors and windows looking and performing their absolute best?
We recommend that you clean your aluminium windows and doors at least once a year. This will help to keep them looking their best by removing any surface grime, dust and dirt that has built up over the year. If your property is near the sea or in a busy city, you might need to clean them more often to remove any build-up of salt or dust.
Cleaning your aluminium door and window frames is so easy. All you need is a little mild detergent and some warm water. Using a soft sponge or cloth, simply give your frames and hinges a quick wipe, rinsing out your cloth or sponge as you go and changing your water after completing each window. Don’t use harsh products or scouring pads on your frames as this is likely to damage the metal and shorten the lifespan of your frames. If you need to take care of more stubborn marks, a good-quality ink rubber is good. Simply rub the ink rubber over the stain a few times and the stain should disappear.
A good glass cleaner and quality microfibre cloth are all that you need to clean the glass in your windows and doors. Choose a glass cleaner that promises a streak-free finish and use a squeegee to ensure your windows are squeaky clean.
It’s amazing how much debris and dust can find its way into the tracks of your doors and windows. This can prevent your windows and doors shutting properly if it builds up. The good news is that you can simply vacuum any debris out of your tracks using the nozzle of your vacuum cleaner. Use a clean cloth and some water to clean away any dirt that is left behind. We also recommend a good spray of WD-40 to keep the tracks and running gears in perfect working order.
Again, WD-40 can be used to keep your locks and locking mechanisms working smoothly. Use the handy red straw that comes with your can to apply the lubricating liquid with precision and wipe away any excess with a cloth. We recommend doing this at least twice a year.
